Training offers employees the chance to fine-tune their skills and sometimes discover a hidden talent. Continual training ensures opportunity and success for both our employees and our company. There have been many employees taking on training in order to learn more about new industry changes and to explore new roles at ECF.
Recently, a group of ECF employees went to a local training center to increase their knowledge on ISO 9001, a quality management system for manufacturing, and the changes in the system required by the latest update to the standard, ISO 9001:2015. This training helped prepare them for ECF becoming ISO certified in the future and understanding what processes and procedures need to be controlled and documented in order to successfully obtain ISO certification. In the coming weeks, seven employees will take a 10-hour OSHA Certification training class to gain a better understanding of OSHA regulations and how we can better apply them to the workplace. These are two recent examples of the many training sessions members of the ECF team attend each year.
In addition to group training, employees also undergo training when developing within their positions or taking on new roles. One employee who is currently training to take on a new position at ECF is Brandon Gottschling. He is transitioning from being the Health and Safety Coordinator, into his new role as in Quality. Brandon has found that training has given him the confidence to perform job duties that he would not have imagined doing years ago.
“ECF has helped me grow into a new career by giving me the opportunity to learn in areas such as environmental, safety, quality, and even customer account management. The ability to get involved in multiple areas and learn from the experts has allowed me to look at the challenges within our organization from a broader perspective.”
While a fresh perspective and confidence with new job functions are aspects that training encourages, there are always a few surprises to be found along the way. “The most surprising thing I’ve learned about training,” Brandon shares, “is that despite how small the manual is, ISO 9001:2015 for Quality Management Systems is very complex!”
For those looking to grow their career or explore a new path through ECF, Brandon advises for them to “get involved and take time to learn.” He says, “spend some time learning multiple jobs or departments so you can understand, at least on the surface, the challenges each have. This will only make you a stronger member of the team in the long term.” He also shares that constructive criticism and mistakes are nothing to fear, because both offer a chance to learn.
Continual training and knowledge is important for our company and for our employees to be able to grow and be successful and happy within their positions.
