Trending Kitchen Fixture Finishes 2016

Every year at the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS), the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) releases their Design Trends Survey, which describes the current trends in kitchen and bath design. According to this report, the trends for kitchens in 2016 are transitional style designs, gray and white color schemes, and simplified storage. But what does that mean in terms of fixtures like faucets and showerheads? We’ll break it down for you here.

Transitional style

A transitional style kitchen falls somewhere between traditional and modern styles; it’s contemporary without severity, with clean lines and natural textures. Burnished and matte brass faucets work well in a transitional kitchen, as do stainless finishes.

Moen, a major manufacturer of kitchen and bath fixtures allows you to search for fixtures based on your desired kitchen style, like transitional, which could be useful if you’re updating to a transitional style kitchen.

White and gray color schemes

This one seems pretty obvious: gray or white cabinets, appliances, and backsplashes. But, with this light, neutral color scheme, matte black faucets and cabinet hardware make a statement. Stainless steel is also popular, especially in kitchens where the gray or white color scheme contributes to a more industrial look.

Simplified storage

Roll-out, tilt-up, and pull-out storage options are becoming more common, and with this type of storage comes the cabinet hardware necessary to access it. Chrome, stainless, and brass are all prevalent finishes for drawer pulls. A cohesive look is key here, cabinet hardware should match or complement other finishes in the kitchen, like the faucet.

Because kitchen fixtures are meant to last for years, it is important to choose finishes that are current and fit your kitchen design scheme, but also have timeless appeal.
